ELKIN CAÑAS

Elkin Cañas was born in 1974 in Colombia, but grew up in Venezuela, where his parents moved when he was 3 years old. Drawing was always part of his life, and discovered his passion for painting at a very young age. After high school he studied graphic design at "The Caracas Institute of Design", followed by the art school of his home city, where he attended for 2 years. Disappointed by the school’s extremely emphasis in modern art, and lack of traditional training and realist approach to painting, he left to study and work with the Italian painter and sculptor “Francesco Santoro” traveling with him between his studios in Milan-Italy and Valencia-Venezuela. He has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions in his country, Colombia and Spain. His paintings have won awards in various salons and competitions. Elkin truly believes in the intense and honest observation of nature and study of the Old Masters and their methods, to create a strong basis on which an artist can build a solid work and career, contemporary, with the highest quality, timeless beauty and permanence for centuries.
